Africa Celebrates Partners Burundi, Appoints Amb. Willy Nyamitwe of Burundi Embassy in Ethiopia Patron

The Executive Board of Africa Celebrates and its partners are honoured to announce Burundi as an official partner of the event. With the theme “ Achieving African Integration through Art, Culture, Heritage, Tech & Business Leveraging on AFCFTA Implementation”, Africa Celebrates comes up 25 – 28 October, 2023 at the African Union & Skylight hotel.

In addition, H.E. Amb. Willy Nyamitwe, the Ambassador of Burundi to Ethiopia and the African Union has been appointed Patron of Africa Celebrates.


According to His Excellency, Amb. Willy Nyamitwe, “In my capacity as the Ambassador of Burundi and Permanent Representative to the African Union, I decided to play an important role in promoting Africa Celebrates, because I believe this special event organised yearly in Addis Ababa by Legendary Gold Limited with the support of the African Union Commission, Embassy of Nigeria, Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others is a timely opportunity to celebrate the Unity of Africans through their cultural and artistic diversity. Furthermore, Africa Celebrates is a step towards the implementation of the African Continental Free-Trade area (AfCFTA) and in achieving peace, security and sustainable development in the continent”.

His Excellency, Willy Nyamitwe, Ambassador of Burundi and Permanent Representative to the African Union


Ambassador Willy Nyamitwe, 51 years old, was appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Burundi to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in December 2021. He is responsible for the bilateral relations between Burundi and Ethiopia, Djibouti, Chad, Eritrea, Israel and South Sudan, and Permanent Representative of Burundi to the African Union Commission (AUC) and to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).

Ambassador Willy Nyamitwe assumes the current post after having served at the Burundi’s State House for more than 15 years. He occupied the position of Senior Advisor to the President of the Republic of Burundi with the rank of Minister, respectively as a Head of the Media, Information and Communication Division (2014-2021) and as the President’s Spokesperson (2011-2014). He also held the positions of Communication Advisor to the President (2005-2011), Chair of the Steering Committee of the Universal Service Fund (2018-2021) and Chair of the National Communication Council in 2021.

Prior to his tenure in the Office of the President, Mr. Willy Nyamitwe was a United Nations staff at the United Nations Operations in Burundi (UNOB) in the Public Information Division (2003-2005). A Native of the City of Bujumbura, Ambassador Willy Nyamitwe holds a Master’s Degree in Media Studies & Mass Media. He is married, father of four and grandfather of three. He has a passion for reading, nature and wildlife.
