The Departure

The convergence of the gentlemen of the press and the tour agencies from Nigeria for a special FAM tour to the coveted Benin Royal Hotel, Cotonou emanated from Mile 2, in Lagos, Nigeria where adequate arrangements for a seamless travel had been made, having two air-conditioned and full options vehicles that conveyed the team for the three hours journey, covering Lagos-Badagry-Seme corridor and ended within the ECOWAS border.

Despite the ongoing constructions on the that axis, it was still a smooth ride to the border between Nigeria and Benin Republic. Expectedly, the immigration protocols took much of the time but the team were warmly received and subsequently picked up by the Benin Royal Hotel’s fully air-conditioned and well equipped shuttle bus with WIFI on board from the border to the hotel located at Toxi Labo area, on the Militare Maro street, in the city centre of Cotonou, the economic nerve of Benin Republic, which is just about 5km to the international Airport at Cadjehun area.

(Arrival) Nomination Ceremony Invitation

Having checked in promptly on arrival at the hotel, the team rested a while and later participated in a strictly by special invitation event organised by the leading tourism organization in Benin, the Consortium Touristes Par Millions Au Benin (CTM-Benin) to attend the nomination ceremony of Miss Bezayit Gizachew, a beauty Queen and an influencer from Ethiopia who was appointed as the CTM-Benin Ambassador.

The ceremony could be classified a grandeur in all sense of it and a very colorful one which had the creme de la of the tourism sector in the country in attendance, held in one of the five events hall situated within the beautiful Benin Royal hotel.

Press Briefing

Having had a great arrival, it was time to get into action, this time, it was a press briefing by the President and Director General of Benin Royal Hotel, Cotonou in person of Amb. Dine BOURAIMA flanked by his team Mr. Vissoh and Madam Victorie who received the team in another beautiful event hall within the hotel.

Amb. Bouraima gave the historical background of the hotel, the current situation, future projections and the challenges bedevilling the sector which he believed are surmountable.

He emphasised the importance of collaboration between Nigeria and Benin Republic in order to create a win-win situation.

Showcasing Benin Royal Hotel, Cotonou

Benin Royal Hotel is a suigeneris, the first four star hotel to get the 4 star rating from the government as an indegenous hotel since 2014 and it was declared opened by the former President of Benin Republic, HE, Yayi Boni and has been operating since then with 65 rooms of different categories, ranging from standard, double, royal and diplomatic suites.

Cotonou City Tour

Part of the itinerary was a tour of Cotonou city where the team visited the longest wall painting in West Africa-Mur don which explains the narratives of the country, pre independence to the modern times.

Also, the tour guide, Cleopatre KOUGNIAZONDE, a professional in her chosen field, explained to the tourists in details everything needed to know about the raison d’etre the paintings.

The Amazon Statue

The team also visited the new tourism representation of Benin, the Amazon, Agohjie in local term. The structure stands majestically, the image of a female warrior representing the the women fighters who stood by their male counterparts to defend their country during the ancient onslaughts.

It was a breathtaking and majestic structure that beautifies the sky of Cotonou like never before, a must see by the global tourists.

Karaoke Night

Returning to the hotel after the tour then came another engagement in the itinerary, this time it was a karaoke time where the team had a great fun winning, dinning and dancing all endlessly all night, just by the attractive poolside that adorns the roof top, 5th floor of the hotel over looking the city.

Obama Beach Party

The tour climaxed with a beach party at one of the beautiful beaches of Cotonou, the Obama Beach where another round of entertainment was presented to the team till night fell, leaving them with a lasting memories that would make them return and inform others to visit to Benin especially the enchanting Cotonou and stay at Benin Royal Hotel.
